doing good as a creative person

“Even with good intentions our work can still cause harm, so before you explore how your creative skills can save the world, examine your objectives and your relationship to the problem, check in with the community affected, and remember that there are plenty of ways to contribute” (Omayeli Arenyeka). The article, How to think differently about doing good as a creative person creates a detailed analysis on CSC (Creative Savior Complex) and how to approach this problem. While reading this article, my first impression of the topic was confusion because I have never heard the term. As the article went on, I began thinking about groups and communities as to whom this article relates to. There are unlimited groups who are in need of conversations and change. As someone who often works to help with these changes, this article was insightful about when your actions are needed and how to go about this. When helping a community, it is essential that you do your research and become familiarized with their stories, not only making assumptions from your point of view. Often times, the community or group you are looking to help has no relation to you. At that point, you must understand how you can help without your actions causing you to believe that you are superior to the group in need and you are not doing it to benefit yourself.
